I have been RUBBISH at Blogging lately! Seriously rubbish. I'm writing from Weymouth at the moment in a Caravan so its a lovely time to Blog. Nice and chilled and not as much mayhem... Still some.. Just maybe minus the piles of Washing, Cleaning and Work.
I will catch you up to speed on what's been going on in Jackson's life these past few weeks after his 4th Birthday and The Balloon-A-Thon (Which seem like AGES ago!)
So a couple Tuesdays ago at Nursery Jackson actually ate PEAS! He hasn't eaten Fruit or Veg in years so that was really amazing! Any parent would tell you how amazing it is when their child eats something new let alone a parent who has an Autistic Child. It was amazing news when I picked Jackson up! So proud of him.
He's getting on really well at Nursery which is great. All his Anxiety has gone from Nursery now and when he's upset or in a meltdown at Home he will sometimes say 'Nursery'! Even when he's about to go to bed! It is great that he loves it so much but its also bad as he's going to hate leaving there in September to go to School. That will be such a hard transition... It will be very stressful for Jackson and us all. Only 4 months to go.....
We love to go for our afternoon walk on a Wednesday with the Dogs and Jackson's Great Nanny and Great Grandad. They normally go quite smoothly but the other day tragedy struck!! Jackson loves making letters out of Lego and he becomes very attached to them. The letter A was chosen one of the day so that had to come with us. We were on our way back and Jackson was trying to tell me something. I didn't understand what he was saying as he was quite teary and sometimes its hard to understand him when he's crying. As time went on he was getting more and more upset. Then I realised .. There were 2 pieces of Lego missing so Jackson couldn't make the A. He was so upset and it was too far to go back and we could of lost it anywhere. I have never pushed a pushchair so fast! POWERWALK! We finally got back to my Nan and Grandad's house and I managed to find the same colour Lego and fix it without Jackson knowing and then he was fine. I felt so bad for Jackson as in his mind this really is a massive deal. He just doesn't understand when things change or go wrong. Thank god my Nan had a lot of Light Green Coloured Lego or I would of been going back along a long route to find 2 pieces of Lego!
Every Thursday Jackson has Portage. He is coming on leaps and bounds working with Jo. She is incredible and Jackson really has taken to her. We have visuals to work with. Visual timetables so Jackson knows what's going on in the week. Jo teaches Jackson turn taking and also patience ( As Jackson has Zero Patience!!) It's great for Jackson to learn patience before going to school as he gets so worked up when he has to wait for something. Day to Day at home, Nursery or anywhere else Jackson goes to he wont sit still for 2 minutes.... With Jo he sits for an hour and a half! Its amazing! Jo is also teaching Jackson Emotions. Autistic children/Adults don't normally understand peoples emotions and I'm seeing that with Jackson the older he gets. So its great that Jo is teaching him Happy, Sad, Tired, Angry, Surprised and Hungry. He hasn't stopped talking about them the whole week so he's really loving learning about them.
On Friday 21st April we had our next 'Family Service Plan' meeting at the Nursery with professionals so we can all catch up on Jackson's progress and discuss what the plan is with School.
Before Jackson was diagnosed I really wanted him to go to a village school so I chose 'West Pennard Primary School'
I got told that I probably wouldn't get it because we live out of the catchment... What happened I got it... I think I was the only 1 in the country crying because I got Jackson's first choice. I felt pretty stupid!
I was so gutted as I was hoping I wouldn't get it in the end and we would get Brookside.
Its all out of my hands now and we are waiting on the EHCP! Not long until we hear back from that. 17th May! Can't wait!! A week today!
Jackson is really funny about textures of food. The other week at Nursery Jackson had Chocolate Mousse ... Well lets just say it all came straight back up...
He's so funny about pasta and sauce as its 2 different textures. We have a lot of sessions led by an Occupational Therapist over June to try and help Jackson branch out a bit with his Food before he starts School. Most of his problem is the Anxiety of trying new things as he doesn't know what to expect. He sticks to the same foods for safety.
So I've been so rubbish posting this post! I just seem like I'm so busy even on holiday!! I couldn't even finish the post so right now I'm writing from home and I've been back from Weymouth for a week!
On Wednesday we heard back from the EHCP...... GOOD NEWS!!!! Jackson got the Education, Health and Care Plan which is Fantastic!
That will stay with him now through his whole School life making sure he gets the help and support he needs. Whenever I get good news it always come with not so good news. So we got the Plan for Jackson but we now have to wait up to a month to find out if he can go to Brookside School. The waiting is killing me! 2017 has been such a long waiting game... So Stressful! I cant wait until its all over and everything's sorted... Well Fingers crossed it will all work out in the end.
I will try and not be so rubbish and Blog more as I've left it so long I have loads to talk about and it will go on and on like an essay and bore you all . I feel like I can go on and on about so much more aswell but its already so long as it is.
Not a lot has happened since we have come back from Holiday. We had a Meltdown as the 'Big Red Boat' stopped working (Thanks for giving us a dodgy product there Argos!!) Jackson got so upset as he didn't understand why it wasn't making sound. Thank god I bought a Sensory Stars and Moon light. That was a Life Saver!!! They are absolutely amazing. So calming. I'm going to do lots of research in Sensory Products as they seem to have a great effect on Jackson.
We all had such an amazing time on Holiday. Lots of Soft Play, Swimming, Parks, Ice Cream, Sun, Beaches and Walks. Jackson refused to go in his Pushchair the whole time ( It sounds like I'm crazy putting a 4 year old in a pushchair still) But I'm not... Jackson had no awareness of danger and will try and run from your hand grasp into traffic so its always for his own good he goes in. But now he screams and I mean SCREAMS when he's put in a pushchair. Like he's being tortured and people stare at me like I'm a horrendous Mother ( That always happens when Jackson has a meltdown or screams though.. Kinda getting used to it now ) But he makes such a scene. So throughout the whole holiday Dad, Ryan and I took it in turns carrying him! He's heavier than he looks with all those quavers he eats.
It was a brill holiday though and Jackson had a great time. We have booked to go back for a long weekend with Jackson's Great Nanny and Great Grandad this time so it will be lovely. Only around 6 weeks to go. Cant wait!
We only had 1 casualty the whole holiday which I think Is good for our record and that was a bumper car related accident. Jackson decided to go very floppy at a bad moment whilst the car bumped into the side causing Jackson to bang his head and his teeth then bite down VERY hard on his lips... BLOOD EVERYWHERE! You could see the panic on everyone's faces even the bloke who worked there. It wasn't as bad as it looked thank god and a lot of cuddles and wipes later he was back asking to go back on... Safe to say I didn't let him back on. I can only deal with 1 heart attack per Holiday Jackson Joel!
Poor Jackson has had a horrible sickness bug this week and he's only just feeling a little bit better from it. It was horrendous. He doesn't understand what is happening. I just wanted to take it away from him. Poor Babba.
On Thursday night he slept 15 hours!!! I had to go in to check him so many times as he was worrying me as he hasn't slept like that ever. He must of really needed that sleep! I had a teenager for a night. It was great as he doesn't ever sleep that well. I've had to get in touch with Jackson's Paediatrician as I was so worried for his lack of sleep. He will need to get more before he goes to School. Little Monkey can't turn his brain off and likes to talk about 'The Twirlywoo's' at 3am for 2 hours!! He can take around 2 hours to settle in the evening aswell.
I'm hoping the Melatonin we have been prescribed will help him get more sleep so he will feel happier and more energetic during the day.
We have Portage this week which I'm looking forward to and we are getting back into our normal routines with appointments which I missed when I was away...
I can't seem to win! I get thrown off when I'm not doing my normal day to day things.
Looking forward to this Bank Holiday weekend! Weather is meant to be good so that means a definite beach trip! Cant wait. Keep it Sunny Weather man!!!!
Hope you all have a good one. Speak to you soon. Thanks for Reading.
Kelly and Jackson
